Normalizing Blow Job
Call it as you wish — oral sex, fellatio, head, deep throat or simply blow job - this playful act of kissing has been done by humans since the beginning of time. Blow job happens to be one of those blessed, ancient tradition that unfortunately was vulgarized by modern porn and tainted with stigma. Even today, some consider blow job dirty, gay and not a “good girl” way to act in the bedroom - which is such a bullsh*t!
The act of blow job is dating back to ancient, medieval and industrial times, found in art and in poetry - oral sex has been depicted among other sexual acts and orgies. By the end of the 20th century oral sex had been sort of “normalized” and had become an essential component of the sexual repertoire for most couples.
During the 1930s, the term blow job was used among military pilots who considered the usage of their planes for blow jobs - it had no sexual connotation whatsoever. And in the same time period prostitutes used the word as a slang to refer to providing oral sex to clients.
The first recorded usage of the term blow job is tracked to a comic book printed in 1948. The name of the comic book is Tijuana Bible. It was a series of palm sized pornographic comic books produced in the U.S. from 1920 to 1960. The edition printed in 1948 shows a male politician telling his colleague “You give such a good blow job”.
Today, brands like Bawdy are doing their part to normalize blow job and make it as a part of better play, and deeper pleasure. The stigma needs to be lifted and our society needs to finally comfortably acknowledge that oral sex is something we have been engaging in, and surely enjoying for thousands of years.
